Silencers don't have to be boring black tubes. British brand 3 Legged Thing has landed in the moderator market with two ranges built to prove the point, and both are now in stock at Ronnie Sunshines.

Who Are 3 Legged Thing?

You might know them from the camera world. Founded in 2010 in a Bedfordshire chicken shed, 3 Legged Thing built a global name for high-performance tripods and monopods, famous for bold colours and modular design. Now they've turned their engineering brains to airgun moderators, and the results turned heads when Airgun World magazine put them through their paces on a BRK Brocock Ranger XR2.

Reservoir Mods: Build Your Own Silence

Unlike a traditional one-piece silencer, Reservoir Mods are built from individual sections you unscrew and reconfigure. Want maximum suppression? Run the full stack. Want a shorter, lighter rifle for stalking around the garden? Remove a section or two. You choose the balance between length and quiet.

Both fit the standard 1/2" UNF thread found on most air rifles, and both suit .177 and .22 calibres. Each chamber holds a precision-cut wool and polyester gasket disc with a density of 277kg/m³, nearly four times denser than high-performance acoustic panels. Pick from a Wavy or Chamfered profile in black, orange or olive drab green.

Airgun World's verdict on the XL? An extremely effective silencer, holding its own against the best on the market. The tester even found his groups tightened with the XL fitted. Quieter and more accurate. We'll take that.

The Modfather: An Offer Your Rifle Can't Refuse

The flagship. The Modfather is a compact, high-capacity moderator built from aerospace-grade magnesium alloy. At 12cm long with a chunky 45mm diameter, it packs a 92ml internal capacity into a short, balanced body weighing 222g.

Inside, 3 Legged Thing ditched traditional baffles for high-density acoustic foam (24kg/m³), the same type used in recording studios. When lead build-up eventually happens, you wash the foam and carry on. No replacement parts needed.

Then there's the customisation:

• Three exoskeleton patterns: Slotted, Chevron and Spiderweb, in black or orange-anodised finishes
• Four inner tube colours: orange, black, olive drab green and blue
• Swappable end caps covering .177, .22, .25 and .30 calibres
• Rear caps for 1/2" UNF, M14x1.25 and M14x1 LH muzzle threads
• Optional extension tube adds a third chamber for even more volume. You even have the option to stack two Modfathers together for an ultra-quiet setup

One moderator. Adaptable across calibres, thread types and looks. Airgun World called it a formidable piece of kit and a well-built modular statement piece.
